Mrs. Rosa Wells-Garris became our new principal in the late autumn of 1997.  From the moment she took over as the head administrator of Wilson High School, she has earned the respect she so well deserves by both the facility/staff and students.  She laid the ground rules, has set examples for us all to follow, and has set her expectations high.  As a result, our school has had a smooth running ever since!  She is Wilson's top President!  Mrs. Wells-Garris received a BA Degree from John C. Smith University, Charlotte, North Carolina and a MA Degree from Atlanta University, Georgia.  Further study was done at ODU, Norfolk, VA.
Mrs. Wells-Garris' Message To The Student Body: Amid my untimely arrival to Woodrow Wilson High School as your acting principal, I found talented, thinking students who were determined to use their heads to get ahead. I also found dedicated faculty and staff members who enthusiastically embraced the change of leadership.
Despite the transition of leadership during the first semester, the school year is ending on a very positive note.  The student body has made great strides in all areasof school life.  Large numbers of  students have made the honor roll each nine week peroid -- many of whom were a Honor Roll; our ROTC, athletes, and other student groups have worked hard and represented the school well: our teachers and support staff have invested much time in and out of school.  They used the community as a classroom laboratory to enable students to expand their knowledge and expe-riences beyond our school building.  Teachers encouraged students to participate in essay contests and other com-petions, and our international Studies Magnet Program continues to provide challenging experiences for the students enrolled.
As we prepare for the closing of this school year.  I express sincere thanks to each of you for the valuable contribu-tions you have made to our school's success.  We can do so much together, and the school's yearbook is an out- standing example of the teamwork that exists here.  When each of us works hard and strive to do our best, student achievement is realized.
